Hello, I’m Kitty Mae Reed. The Friend Who Says What We’re All Thinking.
Who is Kitty Mae Reed? I'm your sister, your best friend, the lady in line at the grocery store fanning herself with a frozen pizza. I’m the woman who had a serious talk with herself in a fast-food driveway about letting younger women have their time to shine... right before wondering if I could afford the full plastic surgery menu.
Or rather, Kitty is the friend I needed and couldn’t always find. She’s the one who pulls up a chair, pours the coffee (or the wine), and whispers, “I’ve been there, too.”
This isn't just my story; it's OUR story. I write under her name because, in a world that often asks women to stay quiet, I believe in giving voice to the unspoken chapters of our lives. From the bittersweet memories of childhood to the hot flashes of midlife, every experience deserves to be seen, shared, and celebrated.
My journey as a writer is rooted in capturing life as it’s truly lived. You won’t find perfect characters here—you’ll find the raw, honest, and often humorous reality of navigating girlhood, chasing dreams, grieving losses, and embracing the wild changes that shape us. Whether it’s the poignant vulnerability in Little Child and Glimmers, the adventurous spirit of A Suitcase and a Song, or the no-holds-barred honesty of The Pause, the common thread is a celebration of resilience.
My hope is that within these pages, you find a piece of your own story, laugh at the absurdity, and feel a little less alone on this beautifully complicated journey.
Welcome to the club. We have fans.
A Q&A with Kitty
Why do you write under the name Kitty Mae Reed?
Every woman deserves a wise, slightly sassy friend in her corner—and Kitty is mine. She’s the one with the courage to be honest and the humor to make it bearable. I write under her name as a tribute to the kind of supportive, truthful friendship we all need. She’s the brave one.
Your books cover everything from childhood to menopause. What connects them?
Life! At the core of all my work is a belief in honoring the full spectrum of a woman’s journey. We aren’t just one thing. We are the little child we once were, the dreamer who chased a song, and the woman navigating a brand-new chapter. My books simply pause to honor each of those equally important moments.
What do you hope readers take away from your stories?
Permission. Permission to feel what they feel. To laugh at the absurd. To grieve what’s lost. To own their story—without apology. More than anything, I hope they close the book feeling seen, understood, and just a little more free.
Thank you for being here. Feel free to explore the books, read the blog, and join the conversation. You’re not alone.
Warmly,
Kitty Mae Reed
